The YikeBike may not look as cool as the planetary gear bicycle, but we’ll let that slip because this one is practical. Expensive, but practical nonetheless. It is foldable, weighs 22lbs, and is not as tall as a man like its good old inspiration. It is a rather small-sized electric bicycle with a carbon fiber frame, and a 20-inch front wheel.
Its front wheel holds a 1.2kW motor that can take the bike to a top speed of 12.5mph, and the lithium phosphate batteries have enough juice to cover a range of six miles. The battery charging time is 30 minutes and its life is approximated at 1000 charges, which could be a worrying factor if you decide to buy the $4860 YikeBike if/when it releases in 2010.
