A rumor suggests that Rolls Royce is considering electric options for its flagship, the Phantom. It is said that a spokesman of the company, while speaking to a member of the press said that a battery powered Phantom was under consideration. The extra weight battery powers would add isn’t much of a consideration for the three tonne Phantom with a V12 under the hood, but the availability of large amount of torque from zero rpm onwards, and a near-silent operation are incentives that may lure the Phantom to go electric.
The problem however, presents itself in range. Making the Phantom entirely battery powered may result in a reduced range, but it is possible that Rolls Royce use a small engine for charging batteries while the car runs, something that may come from the recently unveiled BMW EfficientDynamics concept.
