Shweeb pedal powered monorail could go a long way
Harshpaul | Jul 21 2009

Considering that our city roads are only getting more crowded, a clean option like the Shweeb pedal powered monorail could help reduce congestion on the roads, and give us a futuristic and sci-fi way to travel across the urban areas. Enclosed recumbent bikes could form an easy way of transport, and its creators say the monorail requires much less energy than a racing bike or a mountain bike would.

A version of the Shweeb exists at an amusement park in New Zealand, and it looks all fun and nifty. Also, it kind of mixes exercise with commute, which is a good thing. But to be pragmatic, a system that aims to be similar to mass-transport can’t be pulled off in a pedal powered version. There will be a requirement for some type of pedal assist, or more likely, the pedaling will have to be an optional feature rather than the primary mode.
