Opel’s clean-green Ampera scheduled for a debut at the Geneva Motor Show, will give company to the Chevy Volt in the line of GM’s electric vehicles. The vehicle takes some design cues from the Insignia and the Flextreme concept. Power comes from the Voltec propulsion technology, which means the vehicle is powered by a lithium-ion battery for distances upto 60km; after that distance, an internal combustion engine kicks in to generate electricity to drive the car. The 60km range of the electric battery should be sufficient for normal urban driving, where the urban travel is generally set at distances less than 50 km per day.
