Tractors are probably the biggest gas guzzlers around, but New Holland is working hard to change the scenario. The recently unveiled tractor NH2 is a zero emission machine running on hydrogen power. Fuel cells in the tractors generate electricity, which is then passed to the in-wheel motors on the tractor to generate a decent 106hp.
A splitter divides the 106hp generated by the fuel cells and sends power to all four wheels. The NH2, which is more like a concept at this point, is devoid of a clutch or gearbox, and even a reverse gear. To go reverse, the driver has to reverse power terminals. New Holland is hard at work to make the NH2 production worthy, and expects to bring it to the market in five years.
