Chrysler LLC has revealed a military version of the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited at the ‘07 Defence Systems & Equipment International military trade show in UK.
The new vehicle is called the J8 and will be offered in two-door pickup or four door multipurpose versions. J8 will be produced in Chrysler LLC’s facility in Cairo and will be available next spring.
J8 has a 2.8L four cylinder turbo diesel engine mated to a five speed automatic transmission. The J8 receives 158hp and 400Nm of torque from its engine. This vehicle is capable of towing upto 3,500kg or carrying a payload of upto 1,339 kg. Axles, brakes and suspension components have been engineered for heavy duty use, even the bumpers are heavy duty and have ‘tow eyes’ to aid in transportation by airplanes and helicopters.
This rugged machine can wade in water upto 762mm in depth and face standstorm conditions for nearly 5 hours. It is armor capable, and though not designed for frontline military operations, it is capable of handling many other responsibilities.
