Hidden treasure: 1937 Bugatti Type 57S Atalante found in a garage
Harshpaul | Jan 2 2009

Talk about striking it rich! That’s exactly what happened with the family of Dr. Carr. The doctor died in 2007 and while the family sifting through mountains of papers and other stuff left by the doctor (who had a form of obsessive compulsive disorder and hoarded everything), finally reached the garage, it turned out to be no less than a treasure trove, housing rare cars like a classic Aston Martin, a Jaguar E-type and a 1937 Bugatti Type 57S Atalante. The Jag had to be scrapped, the Aston sold for a few thousands, and the Bugatti is all set to fetch millions. This Bugatti is one of the 17 ever built, and only 15 survive today. It has a top speed of 130mph, is powered by a 3.3-l eight-cylinder engine, a four-speed manual gearbox, 26284 miles on the meter, and 99 per cent of its original parts. The Bugatti may very well set a new world record at a car auction by selling for more than £4.7million. Auction house Bonhams will put this Bugatti under the hammer on February 7.
