We’ve seen a number of open source vehicles and concepts, like the cmmn, Riversimple’s car and EDAG’s concept, but this probably is the first time a major automaker has set foot on the open source car designing ground. Fiat Brazil Style Center has put its design for the FC III (Mio) concept under a Creative Commons license, and is asking people to help with the design.
Fiat isn’t just killing time with the concept, the company intends to showcase the concept at the 2010 Sao Paolo International Auto Show. The car will be based on suggestions from the crowd that Fiat will collect from the Fiat Mio website and from the Mio’s Twitter account.
