The Beast
Ammonoq Concept from Junji Kawabe is made for fun on the waves. The boat doubles up as a submersible and uses ballast tanks to control buoyancy. Ammonoq isn’t a convertible, it incorporates both features together. On water, the concept has a glass roof, unlike other boats and it can go underwater within seconds, without waiting for other additions to take over. Submerging or slicing through water is a safe and easy operation with the Ammonoq.
The seats house a re-breather unit, which can provide for three passengers when submersed. Dive tank storage in the rear of the concept can be used for scuba diving or as an emergency door.
The Machine
Ammonoq has two fin wheels powered by electric motors and can go forward as well as reverse. The boat can slice through water at speeds up to 60kmph, while the submersible mode loses some speed due to obvious reasons. The controls provide full information on vitals like speed, location (using sonar and GPS), depth and oxygen level.
The Thrill
A boat that can work as a submersible is, in our opinion, a grand concept. Kawabe also envisions a remote key transmitter for the concept where the user could control the boat from outside the cabin. Ammonoq seems to have come from sci-fi legends, and apart from the action we could imagine with the Ammonoq in a movie, we also see it as a luxurious thriller.
Thanks, Junji Kawabe
