After remaining on the shelves for a long time, diesel engines are making a comeback; and an impressive one at that. Diesel has emerged as a (temporary) solution to the high-cost gasoline and this fuel also manages to provide acceptable emission levels. So after brands like Audi and Ferrari have displayed green concepts, it is natural that AMG feel the heat to come up with a clean option.
Company bosses have remained tight-lipped on the topic, but with five models up for a facelift this year, addition of diesel variants seems very likely. Models that require more than 700Nm of torque and greater long-distance cruising efficiency will be packed with a diesel V8 under the hood. The A-Class and B-Class models may also get ultra-efficient four-cylinder diesel engine with start/stop technology.
